Jim Kibler was named president of Virginia Natural Gas in July 2016. As president, Jim is responsible for the delivery of safe and reliable natural gas to more than 290,000 customers in southeastern Virginia. Additionally, he also is responsible for ensuring outstanding service for VNG customers, overseeing system growth and expansion, and promoting community involvement, among other duties.
In his previous role, Kibler served as senior vice president of external affairs and public policy for Southern Company Gas (formerly AGL Resources), directing the company's overall public policy initiatives.
Prior to joining Southern Company Gas in January 2005, Kibler was an energy and telecommunications attorney in private legal practice, where he counseled clients in acquiring, permitting and operating energy infrastructure. Additionally, he served as special counsel to the Commonwealth of Virginia on various matters.
He is immediate past chair of the American Gas Association's legislative committee and serves on the board of directors of Our Nation's Energy Future, an organization of leading companies across the natural gas value chain working to reduce methane emissions. He is a past member of the board of trustees of The Georgia Conservancy and of the advisory council for the Trust for Public Lands in Georgia. He has chaired the AGA's task force on energy and environment and the Southern States Energy Board's associate members program.
Kibler earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and his law degree, with honors, from the University of Richmond. He is rated AV/PreeminentTM for legal ability and ethics by Martindale Hubbell.
Kibler and his wife, both Virginia natives, live in Virginia Beach with their three children.
