The Chamber was proud to host another Professional Women’s Leadership Luncheon. With over a hundred business men and women in attendance, Roberta Oster Sachs gave an outstanding presentation on eliminating multitasking, prioritizing your assignments and developing mindfulness.
“We can change our brain, we can train our brains to learn how to manage your attention, and it is called mindfulness” said Sachs. She involved the audience with a couple of fun activities and got the whole room to participate in a four minute long breathing exercise. Mary Beth Marshall from Tidewater Home Funding enjoyed the exercise and said, “This is something I think I need to be doing every day, to take those four minutes and relax.”
Through her PowerPoint, Sachs showed statistics on work productivity and how it could be increased through meditation. The purpose is to, “relax, release, and return to work”, says Sachs. Award winning broadcast journalist and WTKR News Channel 3 anchor Barbara Ciara took this away from the presentation, “I think the one tip that she showed us is how to relax, so giving us real tips on how to take care of ourselves was very beneficial, take a few moments for myself everyday and I can be a lot more productive, I find that not only fascinating but something I can apply tomorrow.”
Jennifer Smith, Administrative Director of Neurosciences Service for Bon Secours Hampton Roads was delighted to receive more information on a topic she had already had experience with. Smith says, “She brought people back to focus, she gave some proof to the pudding that all the direction we are going in at one time is not the best way to climb the ladder and be successful.”
Sachs says, “We can practice mindfulness and become healthier, more productive, better leaders in our organizations and I think you could change your life.”
