The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce will host two historic events on Friday, October 19 that you will want to be sure to attend. Both events will take place at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott (235 East Main St., Norfolk) and are open to the public.
The Chamber, in partnership with the Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance (HRMFFA), is hosting a "State of the Military" forum focusing on defense strategy, current and future Department of Defense spending, and the economic impact of the Federal presence in Hampton Roads. Guest speakers are U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and U.S. Senator Mark Warner. The forum will be a major draw for not only the business community, but for military commanders, elected officials, and community leaders. Registration will take place from 7:30-8:00am, with breakfast and program held from 8:00-10:00am. Attendance is $50 for Chamber members, $80 for prospective members. The Chamber is then hosting a Senatorial Luncheon Forum with U.S. Senate candidates George Allen and Tim Kaine. Politico is calling this the #1 most competitive Senate race in the country. Each candidate will appear separately and given equal time to make their respective remarks. Following remarks, the candidates will each answer pre-submitted questions from the audience. Registration will take place from 11:30am-noon, with lunch and program held from noon-1:45pm. Attendance is $45 for Chamber members, $65 for prospective members.
