During the third day of the IRV, Hampton Roads Delegates went on a bus tour of Durham. “The region of Durham is growing rapidly,” said Geoff Durham, President and CEO, Durham Chamber of Commerce as he delivered the tour of Downtown Durham.
Durham is known for African American business, and attendees drove by NC Mutual Plaza, which houses an incubator for minority owned business and startup ventures called Provident 1898. Right around the corner is the West Village. The West Village is called the Warehouse District and includes Durham’s Innovation District. Durham commented that innovation and technology is thriving all around the Innovation District.
As the tour continued, you notice that the word “Durham” is all around, posted on signs, included in business names, and across buildings. “Durham is really passionate about supporting their own,” said Durham. He went on to discuss the growth of the city, citing 5,700 residents in Downtown Durham and ended the tour with comments on Durham's continued growth.
The tour concluded at WeWork downtown where the next event of the day is the Innovation Panel.
