“Republicans and Democrats work together and the Chamber is the third partner,” said Senator Frank Wagner, Co-Chair of the 2018 Legislative Reception. The Hampton Roads Chamber was proud to bring together 19 elected officials and over 150 Chamber members to the 15th Annual Legislative Reception on Wednesday, September 19th. Business leaders converged at The Harbor Club | Waterside District for the opportunity to network and speak with their legislators on the matters impacting Hampton Roads and the business community. The reception was co-chaired by Senator Frank Wagner and Delegate Matthew James.
The packed room was buzzing with energy as members of the business community met with local, state and federal legislators. Among the attendees were U.S. Congressman Bobby Scott, Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander and Portsmouth Mayor John Rowe. Congressman Scott believes this an “excellent opportunity for bipartisans to come together at the annual kickoff for the General Assembly session.”
As a strong advocate for business growth and prosperity, the Chamber is devoted to building relationships in the community by providing numerous opportunities for members to interact with elected officials. “I am really encouraged by the Chamber’s initiative to bring together business and community allies to further the economic development potential for Hampton Roads, as well as for the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Delegate Matthew James. Delegate Glenn Davis echoed similar views, saying “It gives us the opportunity to meet with the business community and adhere what they see as upcoming challenges in the region and how we can support them in growing employment and our economy.”
The Hampton Roads Chamber is dedicated to working with legislators to create a healthy economic climate and enhanced quality of life. Annual events such as the Legislative Reception are held to give Chamber members accessibility to their lawmakers, make their voices heard and to keep them engaged in the opportunities and issues that impact the business community. The Hampton Roads Chamber is an impactful advocate for our members and the region. The Chamber will continue to set the standards by which businesses can succeed and grow while persistently beating the drum of community collaboration and collective impact.
