Busch USA Lending a Helping Hand All Year Long

One of Busch’s greatest values is its family focus. Not only has the company remained in the family since 1963, but it also cares about its employees, their families and other families in the community, both nationally and locally. That is why every year Busch USA’s Community Service Committee selects 12 to 15 charities to help those in need.

It’s only August, but Busch has already helped to raise money for 10 fundraisers, reaching almost $10,000. Whether it be the Special Olympics, the Humane Society, helping flood victims in West Virginia, or donating to the Red Cross and children at St. Jude’s Hospital, a wide range of charities benefit when Busch USA employees get involved in “Jeans Day”. On select Fridays throughout the year, employees wear jeans to work and pay a small $5 fee, which is donated to a predetermined charity. “We pick the fundraisers for the year based on input from the company each December/early January,” explains one member of the Community Service Committee.

Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems is a family company and one of the largest manufacturers of vacuum pumps, blowers and compressors in the world. The US company of the Busch Group is located in Virginia Beach (VA), where it also has a manufacturing site.

Some charity organizations are close to the Virginia Beach headquarter, such as the Food Bank of South Eastern Virginia, Sentara Hospice House, or through the sponsorship of 12 children in the Norfolk school system to make sure they have the proper school supplies and book bags they need for a successful school year. Even closer to home are organizations that assist some of our beloved employees, such as the MS Foundation and the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation.

“Our huge one each year is the Breast Cancer fundraiser. This annual fundraiser was created over six years ago. This year to raise money, we are doing a bake sale. We’ll have coin jars out (for collection) and we’ll raffle off gift cards from local sponsors,” explains a member of the Community Service Committee. Rounding out the year includes raising money for the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), Bikes for Tykes, which buys bicycles to give to children in need at Christmas time, Connect-a-Wish, and the sponsorship of 10 to 15 children in shelters in the city of Virginia Beach in order to buy them Christmas gifts and clothing.

Busch employees are always eager to give back to the community. Last year employees helped raise almost $3,000 for the breast cancer organization alone. And the goal this year, of course, is to beat that number in order to help beat cancer!

Smaller departments within the company have also looked for ways to help the community. For example, over $200 worth of clothing items were donated to the Goodwill last summer.

Busch prides itself on seeing its employees as their greatest resource. It is through their employees that Busch is making sure it helps as many families as it can in the local community, across the country and all over the world.
