Busch USA Makes Strides in the Fight Against Breast Cancer Breast cancer is an uncontrolled growth of breast cells as a result of abnormal changes in genes. Over time, cancer cells can travel throughout the body and affect other tissues and organs. It is the second most common cancer diagnosed in women in the U.S.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is an opportunity to for supporters, fighters and survivors of breast cancer to come together to honor breast cancer survivors, educate the public and raise money to help the American Cancer Society. Making Strides is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the country. The annual walk inspires over 8 million participants and has donated over $460 million in the fight against breast cancer.
Busch USA employees never shy away from getting involved in charity events. And The Community Service Committee knows how to “sweeten the pot” when it comes time to raise funds. Every year, for six years now, the Committee sets out to raise money for this annual Breast Cancer fundraiser. “This year to raise money, we did a bake sale,” explains one Committee member. The Committee raised $715 that will go to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Among some of the more popular baked goodies were banana pudding, which didn’t even last 30 minutes! Other hits were Oreo balls, a pineapple upside down cake, a Death by Chocolate dessert and apple pie all made by employees and their spouses. “Everything that people made was bought up!” admits a Committee member.
Seven novelty cakes were also baked for the silent auction. A delicious cupcake cake sold for $35, a brown bear cake for $36, a Breast Cancer Ribbon cake for $25, a cowboy cake for $32 and a panda bear cake for $50! Another enticing spice cake sold for $15.
And on September 1st, the Committee will be selling $1 memory cards that employees can fill out. There will also be coin jars in employee kitchens around the building for donations until the Breast Cancer walk in October. The Committee also raffled off gift cards from local sponsors.
Funding and support for breast cancer awareness and research has helped to improve advances in treatment, thus increasing survival rates. That’s why it’s very important to the Busch USA team that we get involved every year and donate as much time and money as we can.
