Sam Black Promoted to Director of Marketing for Downtown Norfolk Council

As director of marketing, Black will oversee all consumer marketing efforts that promote Downtown Norfolk including marketing plans, promotional campaigns, public relation strategies and special events.

Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) is pleased to announce that Sam Black has been promoted to director of marketing. Black previously served as DNC’s marketing and digital manager since 2019 and marketing specialist since 2015. She has a keen interest in Google ads, analytics and social media advertising.

“Sharing my love for Downtown Norfolk is one of my favorite things to do!” said Black. “I’m excited to step into the director of marketing position, bringing passion for my favorite city with me into the role, as well as the experience I’ve gained in the last seven years with DNC. It is such an exciting time to be a part of Downtown Norfolk, and I am excited to celebrate its bright future.”

As director of marketing, Black will oversee all consumer marketing efforts that promote Downtown Norfolk including marketing plans, promotional campaigns, public relation strategies and special events. Additionally, she will supervise other the marketing personnel, manage the marketing budget, direct the cultivation of sponsorships to support programs and events, coordinate the development of collateral materials and DNC’s website and oversee membership programs.

“Sam has demonstrated her marketing knowledge and social media skills over the past seven years,” said DNC President & CEO Mary Miller. “We are thrilled to keep this level of professionalism and energy in our talent pool.”

Black previously worked with Virginia Symphony as the marketing manager and Virginia Opera as the box office associate. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature with a minor in creative writing from New York University. She was named 2021 Millennial on the Move by CoVa Biz Magazine and a 2021 Top 40 Under 40 by The Virginian-Pilot. She was first introduced to Downtown Norfolk Council as a member of the DT100, a young professionals volunteer group.
