One of the largest health systems in Hampton Roads recently joined up with another outreach effort designed to provide jobs for veterans after they leave the military.
Sentara Healthcare recently announced its participation in the Army’s Partnership for Youth Success – or PaYS – program. Under the new initiative, participating veterans will be guaranteed a job interview with Sentara after their service.
“As an organization, we are very committed to our veterans in our community,” said Becky Sawyer, Sentara’s senior vice president and chief human resources officer.
The Army approached Sentara about 18 months ago about becoming a PaYS partner. Back then, Sawyer said the program was in its infancy as far as health care, with only Johns Hopkins Hospital as a partner.
Sawyer said Sentara jumped at another opportunity to provide for veterans.
