This past October, Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems helped raise almost $9,000 for the American Cancer Society in the fight against breast cancer. The Busch Team came in third for most money raised amongst other local organizations and companies at the “Making Strides” against breast cancer walk on 22 October.
Employees pushed the anti-cancer fundraising efforts through a company-wide bake sale, coin jar donations, raffle ticket giveaways, and accepting online donations. The Busch team wrapped up fundraising by participating in “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Hampton Roads”, a walking event that took place on 22 October, 2016. “Making Strides” events date back to 1984 when a cancer survivor from Massachusetts organized a so-called “move-along-a-thon”. This first event attracted 200 participants. Since these early days, 11 million walkers have taken part in Making Strides events, raising over $685 million to fight breast cancer.
Over 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the US every year. This makes breast cancer the second most common cancer diagnosed in women, only skin cancer is more common. Unfortunately, over 40,000 women die of breast cancer a year. Contributions made through Making Strides, an American Cancer Society network, helps in the research and treatment of breast cancer diagnosis. The organization also provides educational outreach and information, free patient support programs, and participation in breast cancer research.
Proceeds go to a local charity that is part of the American Cancer Society network.
