Studio Center was heartsick to learn that Abby Furco, cancer survivor and friend, was transported to Children’s National Hospital ‘s PICU at the end of October. She was battling septic shock.
Abby who has been fighting a rare form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia since the age of four has “cheated death” on many occasions.
Studio Center first met the then 10-year-old Abby in 2017 when she was given just 48 hours to live after receiving a bone marrow transplant that had attacked her body. Abby went on to beat the odds once again. At that time, Studio Center was made aware of Abby’s passion for cooking and created and produced a show called “Abby’s Kitchen”. During production, Studio Center and the VA Culinary Institute presented Abby with a full 4-year scholarship to the school.
Instead of donating to a Cancer charity this year, Studio Center’s CEO William “Woody” Prettyman will be donating money on behalf of each staff member participating to help Abby’s family with medical bills. Studio Center is asking that any Hampton Roads' business interested in joining the fundraising effort contact us at 757-622-2111.
Abby was released from Children's National on November 6 and was admitted to Portsmouth Naval Hospital on November 11 with pancreatitis. She will be having surgery on Friday, November 15.
Studio Center CEO William “Woody” Prettyman commented, “Abby is our friend and a true warrior. This donation will be just the beginning of our renewed efforts to help Abby and her family.”
