"When you use words to describe a connection, it's going to pull people closer." Elizabeth Duncan-Hawker focused on "THE POWER OF CONNECTING" for the Power of Women on 11/9/2021.  For the 30 years, women represented only 4% of the business community; today, women allocate for over 40% of the business community. The Hampton Roads Chamber is proud to serve this region as an Impactful Advocate and Inspiring Ignitor, setting the conditions for businesses to succeed.

Hampton Roads Chamber Senior Vice President of Programs and Communications, Priscilla Monti, set the tone for Power of Women describing the event's purpose. "We started the Power of Women a few years ago to empower females to move up the ladder into top-level jobs. Now we realize we need to do more than that. We need to help workers, especially women, balance their work/life load in this new economy.

Series Presenting Sponsor Sarah Buck, Senior Manager of Public Affairs at Cox Communications, presented sponsor comments to the audience. “We value connections and are honored to provide those connections.”

Duncan-Hawker expressed the importance of listening, a step not just for leaders, but everyone should follow. "When we don't feel heard, we aren't connecting. Duncan-Hawker continued to say, "You can hear people but are you listening? We want real human connection; we want the power of connection."

In Duncan-Hawker's book, "Collecting True Friends," she delivers key facts and interactive workshops that help the reader understand strategies to create new relationships and connections. Creating a personal relationship is essential, and Duncan-Hawker expressed the importance of self-preparation on what makes you interesting and what you will share when connecting on new relationships. "If you want people to remember you, you need to share. What is the thing that you can connect to?” Duncan-Hawker presented connecting tips on finding new ways to use your five scenes to connect:

  1. See: Visually appealing.
  2. Hear: Add music played on arrival
  3. Taste
  4. Smell
  5. Touch

"A life lacking friends is totally fixable." When creating new connections and relationships, Duncan-Hawker presented a personal and powerful slogan; she also encouraged the audience to give. Her slogan ties back to her book "Collecting True Friends," which is available on her website ( http://www.collectingtruefriends.com/ ) or Amazon.
