”While nearly everything has been canceled due to the pandemic we are so grateful we could come together today.  If fact, today’s event is the first community event I’ve attended since taking command in March.”

Captain Vince Baker, Commanding Officer of Naval Station Norfolk, addressed the crowd of military honorees and business leaders at the Hampton Roads Chamber Military Recognition Reception.

“You are setting the example for others to follow and are true leaders in out of work. You are creating a reputation of goodwill in the community, and expectation of elite performance at work, and a culture of excellence across Hampton Roads.”

Baker was the keynote speaker for the event designed to highlight the best of area commands.

Bryan Stephens, President & CEO of the Hampton Roads Chamber, told the honorees, "We are extremely proud to recognize all of our outstanding men and women who wear our nation’s cloth. We are particularly proud of these individuals who have been selected by their units for exemplary behavior.“

The Hampton Roads Chamber works to be an inspiring ignitor, impactful advocate, powerful economic partner, and regional collaborator.  The Military Recognition Reception is one of the annual events the Hampton Roads Chamber holds thank the military for being a vital part of our economy and region.

Today’s honorees are listed below.

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Aircraft Handling Second Class (Air Warfare Specialist) Megan Kintner, Naval Station Norfolk, is honored for logging more than 210 volunteer hours in support of Denbigh High School, Roc Solid, Virginia Living Museum, SPCA, and E & B Give Back Foundation.

Engineman Second Class (Surface Warfare) Sierra Salazar, USS MESA VERDA, is honored for being Petty Officer of the Year 2020 with sustained superior performance throughout the command. She is a vital member of the engineering department, contributing her technical expertise and outstanding deck plate leadership to achieve Safe to Operate Certification in three Auxiliary Spaces and successful testing of three Ship’s Service Diesel Generators.

Et1 (SW) Jacob Eagle, Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck, is honored for being the Top Performer as Calibration Laboratory Manager.

ET2 (SW/AW) Sean McGrath, Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck, is honored for being Sailor of the Quarter.

Hospital Corpsman Third Class Erick Martinezluna, USS Mesa Verde, is honored for being the Top Performer within the Health Services Department, providing meticulous care, diagnosis, and treatment of injury and illnesses for the Sailors onboard.  He continues to show outstanding motivation to mitigate and prevent COVID spread onboard.

IS1 (IW/SW) Charles Fischler, U.S. Fleet Forces, is honored for being U.S. Fleet Forces Command Senior Sailor of the Quarter.

Machinist Mate First Class (SW) James Dudley Everett, NNSY Fleet Maintenance Shops, is honored for leading 56 Sailors across three shops and qualifying 7 Sailors as Valve Repair Technicians.  As a Departmental Career Counselor, he conducted 11 reenlistments, 12 extensions, 10 Career Waypoints, and Conducted Career Development Boards for 23 Sailor at FMS. He was hand-selected to be the Family Assistance Coordinator for Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and he ensured that Sailors and their families received assistance during the Holiday Season. 

MU2 Sandra Herrera, U.S. Fleet Forces, is honored for being the U.S. Fleet Forces Command Junior Sailor of the Quarter.

Operations Specialist First Class (Surface Warfare/Air Warfare) Linda D’Andrea, Naval Station Norfolk, is honored for going above and beyond while assigned to the Public Affairs Office.  Since the outbreak of COVID-19, managing, supervising, and leading more than 40 Sailors while also filling the role as the Deputy Public Affairs Officer for the world's largest naval station.
