The 28th annual Hampton Roads Small Business of the Year (SBOY) Awards luncheon will be held Tuesday, May 22 during National Small Business Week, which recognizes the contributions of small businesses to the economic well being of America. One exceptional small business owner out of five finalists, one from each Southside city, will be selected for his or her tireless work and embodiment of the spirit of enterprise. National Small Business Week will honor the estimated 27.2 million small businesses throughout the country. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business. Small businesses also create 60-80 percent of new jobs in the country.
