The Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads, Inc. (SBDC) has been nominated and selected as the 2014 Legacies award recipient of the Silver Star Award for Jobs and Entrepreneurship by the Urban League of Hampton Roads Young Professionals. This award recognizes excellence in entrepreneurship and job creation in the Hampton Roads community.
Jim Carroll of the SBDC was honored to receive the award remarking, “All of us at the SBDC are both honored and humbled to receive this award. The real winners, are those small business owners and entrepreneurs who daily take the risks in the marketplace, hire employees and deliver the goods and services needed by all of us throughout Hampton Roads. The SBDC takes great pride in being able to assist them as they move forward with their businesses and we look forward to continuing to work with the region’s small business community in advancing this area’s economy.”
A ceremony was held for award recipients on February 27 at Tidewater Community College’s Roper Performing Arts Center (340 Granby Street, Norfolk ). The award was presented by high school seniors from the Urban League of Hampton Roads National Urban League Incentives to Excel and Succeed program.
The Urban League of Hampton Roads Young Professional’s mission is to engage young professionals in the Urban League of Hampton Roads’ movement towards the achievement of social and economic equality. ULHRYP does this by providing an effective forum through which young professionals can support the Urban League’s more than 100 affiliates in 35 states and the District of Columbia.
