The Aquarium will be open from 5:30 – 9 p.m. on April 6, 13, 20, and 27 to give reserved ticketed guests a mermaid themed evening in the Bay & Ocean Pavilion. Not only will King Neptune and his court greet visitors as they enter the lobby, but special mermaids will be located throughout the building. Children are encouraged to dress in “sea life” and mermaid costumes too!
The popular Malena the Mermaid will be swimming in the Red Sea Aquarium. As part of the experience, guests will have a timed ticket to view her and take a few images as she swims in the colorful tunnel with her companions of the sea. Another mermaid will be perched upon her “throne" in the Ray Touch Pool, and the Norfolk Canyon Aquarium will be graced with a mermaid sitting in front of it. Additionally, there will be a mermaid reading stories on the hour in the Promenade hallway window area. She will be available for photo opportunities in between readings.
Speaking of reading, author Daniel R. Ford will be on hand for a book signing of his book The Marlin and The Mermaid "Help save the Bay."
Aquarium educators will have mermaid themed activities which include a Mermaid’s Myths or Mysteries game, a “mermaid scavenger hunt” and crafting sea creature hats. Prizes will be awarded.

Tickets can be purchased online or by calling Guest Services (757 385-0300) with a credit card reservation. To enable full viewing of the mermaids by guests, strollers are not allowed for this event.
