What are your business's core values, goals, and overall mission?:
The Breast Care Center is an independent breast care center dedicated to the women and families of Portsmouth, VA. It is our mission to provide top quality breast health services to our community. We use state-of-the-art equipment for all screening and diagnostic imaging as well as imaging-guided procedures. Our comprehensive model is based on a multidisciplinary approach that can help reduce the anxiety associated with mammography screening and a breast cancer diagnosis.
Share some unique facts and business history? What makes your business stand out?:
Formerly known as the Delta Surgical Oncology Breast Center, the Breast Care Center of Portsmouth was founded in late 2015. The existing facility on Crawford Street, in downtown Portsmouth, was fully renovated and upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment in the winter of 2015-2016 and reopened last spring. Our new center features digital 3D mammography units, ultrasound capabilities, and now, the ability to perform imaging-guided biopsies all in one location. We have staffed the center with dedicated fellowship-trained radiologists/mammographers; one of the few centers in Hampton Roads providing such highly-trained personnel. The Breast Care Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology and is certified by the FDA to comply with the requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992.
What products or services do you offer companies or individuals?:
We provide screening and diagnostic mammograms, 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, and both ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy services. The Breast Care Center also performs bone densitometry.
What are the greatest obstacles and/or challenges that your business has faced? How have you and your business overcome them?:
After closing and renovating the center on Crawford Street, our biggest challenge has been getting the word out to previous patients and all the women of Portsmouth and the surrounding area that we have re-opened and have improved and expanded our services. We have worked to ensure that all prior insurance carriers are still accepted. We hope that through print and other media, as well as word of mouth, that we can spread the word that we are open and accessible.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?:
We are most proud to have partnered with a well-established, local group of outstanding mammography experts to provide breast care for the women of Portsmouth.
What do you see for the future of your business?:
We hope to grow and become the premier breast center for the city of Portsmouth, bringing a new level of accessibility and quality breast care services to a city that currently has one of the highest rates of breast cancer diagnosis and breast cancer-related deaths in the United States.
Why are you a member of the Hampton Roads Chamber?:
We hope that our membership will help us build relationships with like-minded community members and organizations so that our business can reach its full potential not only as a provider of health services, but also as a source of accurate information and a community partner in the fight against breast cancer.
