The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce was honored to partner with Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) and Rail-Volution at the Transformational Transit Summit on June 27, 2016 at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center. Speakers included William Harrell, President/CEO of Hampton Roads Transit; The Honorable William Sessoms, Mayor, City of Virginia Beach; Bryan Stephens, President/CEO of Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; Dan Bartholomay, CEO of Rail-Volution; and Tom Frantz, Chairman Emeritus, Williams Mullen.
Bryan Stephens, President and CEO of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce spoke at the event about the importance of a multimodal transit system to the business community in Hampton Roads. “It is an absolute requirement for good commerce we have a multimodal system,” stated Stephens. “Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce is all about setting the conditions for businesses to succeed and getting more people and products into Hampton Roads and outside of Hampton Roads is a requirement for businesses to succeed. This forum helps us to be a step closer to coming together as a region and our opportunity to create our future that we start developing today.”
Transformational Transit enhances economic development diversification and competitiveness and vibrant and healthy communities. The purpose of the Transformational Transit Summit was to feature and explore before-and-after impacts of light rail transit in economically vibrant cities/regions; raise awareness of the transformative impact potential of light rail; and provide access to national experts’ insights and how-to information. The presentation included comparisons and contrasts with featured cities such as Charlotte, Denver, St. Paul – Minneapolis and Phoenix. It increased awareness and positive attitudes among target audiences and the potential positive impacts for Hampton Roads economic prosperity and quality of life.
