The Chesapeake Police Department’s Central Records Unit will extend operating hours in June of 2019 to better serve our citizens. Beginning June 11th, hours will be Monday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. All financial transactions may be paid with cash, check, credit card or money order. Transactions are payable to the City of Chesapeake. All transactions require picture identification. Central Records serves as the repository of all Department records and is located on the 2nd Floor of Police Headquarters at 304 Albemarle Drive. Central Records is responsible for responding to most Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests as well as all Subpoenas Duces Tecum. Citizens may request record checks/criminal histories, copies of accident reports and offense reports through Central Records. Please note that not all records are releasable. Also, Taxi Permits, Concealed Weapons Permits and fingerprinting for employment, foster care, etc. are also processed through Central Records. Central Records performs background checks for citizens applying for various permits, including Pawnshop Permits, Precious Metal Permits (for pawnshops that receive jewelry), Vendor Permits, Door-to-Door Solicitor Permits, and Dance Hall Permits.
