The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for its 2011 Marian P. Whitehurst Women in Leadership Award. This award, created in 2009, is given to a woman who exemplifies professional excellence, is devoted to community service, and actively assists women in their professional development and leadership. The award is named after Marian P. Whitehurst (1924-1991), who has been described as a visionary with quiet dignity and integrity. Whitehurst presided over Chesapeake City Council as Mayor from 1972-1980. The Honorable Faye W. Mitchell, Clerk of the Circuit Court, received the 2010 Marian P. Whitehurst Women in Leadership Award.
Nominees must demonstrate excellence in their business or profession, must devote time and energy to the community in a meaningful way, and must assist others in attaining their fullest potential. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, August 31, 2011.

The 2011 recipient will be honored at the Chamber’s Chesapeake Volunteer Recognition Luncheon to be held on Thursday, September 22 from 12:00-2:00pm at the Chesapeake Conference Center.
