The City of Virginia Beach will break ground in August for the 285,000-square-foot Virginia Beach Sports Center, which until July 10 was only an idea. The Virginia Beach City Council passed a resolution to move forward with the sports center.
This positive decision reflects the vision of regional leadership and will become an example of infrastructure as an economic catalyst. This is larger than a sports complex, it means the creation of additional opportunities, particularly in the highly competitive tourism industry.
The growing segment of sports tourism, an $11.4 billion per year industry, (2017 National Association of Sports Commissions report) means our region is primed for growth and will now be more competitive on a national scale.
