Julián Castro, Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, Terry McAuliffe, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Mayor Paul Fraim announced that Virginia will receive $120.5 million in federal disaster resilience funding to support the Ohio Creek Watershed and the Coastal Resilience Laboratory and Accelerator Center (CRLAC) in Norfolk. The funds will be used for two major projects in Norfolk:
1. Ohio Creek Watershed – installation of a series of distributed green infrastructure projects combined with the development of coastal living shoreline to address stormwater and coastal protection.
2. CRLAC – Creation of economic development center that will serve as the nexus for technological and organizational innovation around community revitalization, water management, resilience measurement and other water-sector business-related resilience challenges.
