Unlike many other etiquette or protocol schools, the Intercultural School of Etiquette not only provides quality education in the four prominent areas of protocol known and practiced by most professionals within the United States, but we also offer language training and the business and cultural protocols of other countries. Our decor of our school is designed to increase global awareness and encourage the feeling of emersion with each session of training.
What products or services do you offer companies or individuals?
At the Intercultural School of Etiquette, we offer a corporate training program entitled “Culture and Class using written and practical training methods. This program provides professional cultural training to globally minded professionals, who desire to conduct business outside of the United States. Each event presents a display of authentic cultural cuisines, cultural dining etiquette training, basic language training, and professional practices, that assists in the success of doing business abroad. As a former diplomat, I use my professional background experiences to design training materials and a curriculum specifically for my client's needs. When necessary, we implement workshops and trainings, providing logistics and planning for large and small events. So far, we have provided for the countries of: Portugal, Pakistan, Romania, Italy, Japan, Burundi, Senegal, and Estonia.
What are the greatest obstacles and/or challenges that your business has faced? How have you and your business overcome them?
According to economists, a study done by an MIT economist found that "an American who learns a foreign language gets an average earnings bonus of 2 percent. When applied to the average college graduate’s starting salary of around $45,000, this 2 percent adds an additional $67,000 to the graduate’s lifetime earnings." Yet, the greatest obstacle and/or challenges that the Intercultural School of Etiquette has faced since arriving in the Hampton Roads area is diversity in culture and language. While there is a push for the language of Spanish, studies have shown that the top foreign languages spoken in business today are: Mandarin, French and Arabic. Our method for overcoming this obstacle was to create our Culture and Class events and to provide training for a younger generation beginning at the age of five. This summer, starting in the month of July, the Intercultural School of Etiquette is offering a Culture and Class course for children and teens. The cost is $55 per child/teen, per week, and each child will receive 12 hours of instruction - 2 weeks total. Our belief is to change our world, one child or teen at a time!
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
