NOLAND CHESAPEAKE FOOD DRIVE HELPS FIGHT HUNGER
The team of some twenty employees at Noland Company Chesapeake decided to set the bar higher for their 4th Annual Food Drive. Having raised 850 pounds for the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore in 2018, the team members were confident that they could collect 1,000 pounds of food donations this year.
“It was ambitious,” commented Matt Weaver, President/Owner, “but these folks are determined. Each year since 2016, we’ve increased our goal and we haven’t fallen short yet.”
The employees of Noland Company, a locally owned wholesale distributor supplying Hampton Roads, launched an information campaign to involve customers, vendors, friends, family and business neighbors alike.
“We reached out to everyone we could, “ commented General Manager Kevin Souther, “to make them aware of this opportunity to do more than we can as individuals.”
That emphasis on joining together to help the community paid off in the first three food drives Noland Company led. And it seems the approach remains spot on. The proof was in the final weigh-in on Dec. 19, when the scale tipped at 1,250 pounds of food donations.
Understandably proud, the team at Noland Company Chesapeake hopes that other groups will be encouraged to hold their own food drives. “We started small with the goal of 500 pounds in our first drive,” says Weaver, “but with the help of our customers and others, we know we are making a difference.”
Matt Weaver and his team credit the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and Eastern Shore for the support they offer to help organizations run a successful drive.
The goal for Noland’s 2020 Food Drive has not been set, but Showroom Manager Rhonda Lindahl says the team will keep the emphasis on “going big!”
