“Productivity will increase because the stress will be released. When employees are stressed, they get stuck. Happier employees are more productive employees," stated Dr. Perry Austin.
On February 16th, the Hampton Roads Chamber welcomed Dr. Perry Austin of W.G.M.I. Center to present Virtual Chamber Education: Virtual Team Bonding During COVID-19.
With so many companies working from home, many feel they are not connecting with their coworkers and team members in the same ways they are used to. Birthday breakroom parties, holiday gatherings, and appreciation lunches are now a thing of the past, so how do you bond with your team from home? Dr. Austin has several ideas of ways to bond and shared the benefits these fun activities bring to not just the team, but to the organization.
Dr. Austin recommended trying a virtual talent show where team members share a fun talent they have, or a paint and sip night where everyone does a craft. A simpler activity could be having themed virtual backgrounds during Zoom meetings or having a virtual cocktail hour where employees dress in nicer attire. Dr. Austin stated that these activities help to break up the monotony of the day and lead to employees feeling more motivated to work from home, and more connected to the team.
The Hampton Roads Chamber works to bring meaningful and topical programs to our members. We listen to the ever-changing needs of the business community and provide education that speaks to current business issues.
