Free Community Event, March 11, 2020

As parents, coaches and administrators we want the best for our young athletes, but don’t always see the signs and symptoms that distress, pressure and/or anxiety can have on the young athlete. Many high-profile athletes are openly discussing their struggles with mental health and wellness, but what about our youth athletes?

Join the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Childrens Hospital of the King's Daughters for a FREE community forum titled, Building Mental Wellness, Boosting Sports Performance, to learn the signs and symptoms of anxiety in youth and understand its impact on their ability to be successful in sports and in life. Learn why 70% of kids drop out of sports by age 13, what it means to be a well-rounded athlete, and whether an athlete should specialize in a single sport. Hear from an expert panel featuring:

  • Michael Cuddyer, 15 year MLB veteran, 2x MLB All-Star, and 2017 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
  • Eugene D. Holloman, author and former JMU Football star.
  • Dr. Joel Brenner, medical director of CHKD's sports medicine program.

This event, moderated by WAVY-TV's Kerri Furey, will provide resources for student-athletes and their families, coaches, administrators, and anyone involved in youth sports. To learn more and to register, please visit the link below:
