This year’s annual Celebration of College Athletes Awards Dinner, hosted by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission (HRSC), an affiliate of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The awards dinner will take place at the Newport News Marriott City Center from 5:30pm-8:30pm.
The dinner recognizes and celebrates top local college football and basketball athletes, from the Apprentice School, Christopher Newport University, College of William and Mary, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, and Virginian Wesleyan College. Each football and basketball program nominated student-athletes for: Defensive and Offensive players of the year. The Hampton Roads Sports Commission Player of the Year Award will be presented at the dinner to the top offensive and defensive players of the year in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.
During the dinner, award-winning sports writer and author Jim Ducibella will serve as keynote speaker. Jim was born and raised in Washington, D.C. During his career Jim has worked at the Washington Star, Redskins Beat and The Virginian-Pilot. Considering the audience, Jim is proud to say that he provided most of the coverage of the early days of ODU football.
